Decidí no preocuparme mucho.

Vamos a movilizarnos.

A STALIN-STYLE SHOW TRIAL ON THE „PARADISE” ISLAND

On September 30th 2013 Gorki along with Renay were stopped while going to their friends’ party. The
police found on Gorki two pills of a medication for epilepsy which Gorki has been suffering from since he was a teenager. He spent two days in prison without his medication. When he was finally freed, he was presented with the charges of illegal possession of controlled drugs. It was that day when the
months long nightmare started.

Medications were prescribed by a Mexican doctor during Gorki’s visit at his sisters’ in Veracruz.
The procedure of the preparation of documents took two months. Gorki’s family in Mexico managed to get the statement of the doctor who prescribed the medication. But such a paper was not enough. The statement had to be confirmed by a notary. But to present it in Cuba it had to be fully legalized by the
Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And that is because Cuba is one of a very few countries of the world which has never signed the Hague convention on the international “apostille” standard which makes it easier and faster to legalize the documents which are to be used outside the issuing country. Thanks to the help of a few international organizations Gorki’s family got the money and necessary legal advice to obtain it.

Still even the legalization granted by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not enough for the Cuban courts. So next the documents had to be presented in the Cuban consulate in Mexico so that it could declare, according to Gorki’s words that “there exists such doctor and notary and the Foreign Affairs Ministry and finally such a country called Mexico”. Documents arrived to Havana in a courier
package which had been opened by the authorities.

Gorki has no fixed internet connection. He uses a network in one of the European embassies. His
day is Monday around 2:00 p.m. local time. But since Christmas up to mid January most of the embassies stayed closed. When we talked for the last time in the second half of December 2013, Gorki still had no clue neither about the precise content of the charges that were to be pressed against him or about the possible date of the trial.

December 10th is International Human Rights Day. On that occasion the Cuban organization Estado de Sats led by Antonio Rodiles, prepared a set of meetings and presentations of some excellent
Cuban intellectuals, dissidents and artists. The celebrations were planned for December 10th through the 11th. On December 10th the arrests started. Among others detained was the above mentioned Antonio Rodiles. In the afternoon I received a text message from Gorki “we’re fine just worried about Rodiles”. Gorki went to his house to join the others who protested against the arrests. He was stopped by two policemen in civil clothes and beat up brutally (he received a few punches on the head which ended up causing a migraine attack). He was kept in jail for another two days. I was informed about this incident in a one sentence long e-mail from Ciro Diaz.

In the end of January Gorki got back online. We talked about the plans for the upcoming year,
the eventual concerts in Europe, the new material he was creating with Porno para Ricardo and a completely new musical project he is about to announce in the middle of the year. We discussed new urban cameras installed in front of the dissidents’ houses (Gorki had “his” installed as one of the first).

On January 31st I received another one sentence long email from Ciro saying that Gorki had received the note with the date of the trial – February 11th. I decided not to worry too much. The idea of -incriminating a sick man just for his sickness and the fact that he is trying to have a normal life – alone was for me, a person who lives in a normal, democratic country, so absurd that I had difficulty with believing in its’ reality. According to this I already knew that the whole medical documentation was already completed. But the worst information was just about to hit. In a “Juicio sumario” (summary trial) as the type of trial Gorki will have to go through is nothing more than a copy of trials held in Stalin’s Russia in the thirties of the last century which were basically a show. The defense is not allowed access to the prosecution files, which makes it impossible to prepare the proper line
of defense. In those terms we can say that Gorki was already found guilty. If he is sentenced, and if it comes to the worst – for how long, is just a matter of the interest of the international community.

During last week I observed plenty of gestures of solidarity, help and support. Many people have
signed the petition to the Cuban authorities for clearing Gorki of the absurd charges (though we do not exactly know what their accusations are). Activists have been sending pictures and videos showing their support, they have been sharing each and every single piece of information. Gorki himself has recorded a video containing his statement about the trial and a call for support. He tries to stay calm and cool but anyone who knows him even just a bit can see that Gorki is scared. It is not just a bad joke anymore. If this forty-five year old man (many of us tend to forget that he is not a teenager anymore) ends up in jail without the possibility to continue his therapy, this case may come to the most tragic end. We do not know if when the worst come to worst, we will be able to get him out of there before the epilepsy will do its’ job…

So let’s move. We have three days left until the trial. Let’s show the Cuban authorities that we watch their actions closely and that illness and “forbidden songs” are not reason enough to sentence a man to possible death. Gorki has done nothing wrong. He just sings and speaks his mind out loud. And he carries all the positives -his jokes, good word for everyone, laughter, good energy. It is truly hard to believe that this guy who always tries to make everyone around him have sex, who tries to seduce each and every girl he likes and who keeps on joking with everyone – sometimes despite the language barriers - might be punished for the simple fact that he has the bravery of thinking by himself…

But it is real. And it is only up to our solidarity if he makes it out of this oppression.

Please sign the petition. Share pictures, videos and information. Write to Gorki – even just to let him know that he is not alone.

W ciągu ostatniego tygodnia obserwowałam wiele aktów solidarności, bezinteresownej pomocy i wsparcia.

Do procesu zostały ledwie trzy dni. A poza tym przecież niesie z sobą zawsze same pozytywy – żarty, dobre słowo, śmiech, pozytywną energię.

Udostępniajcie zdjęcia, filmy i informacje.

O chorych pomysłach kubańskich władz / About sick ideas of Cuban authorities

zaburzenia równowagi pomiędzy neuroprzekaźnikami pobudzającymi i hamującymi;
obniżony próg pobudliwości neuronów spowodowany np. zaburzeniami elektrolitowymi;
zaburzenia pracy pompy sodowo-potasowej, wynikające z niedoboru energii.”
Pozbawić go leczenia?

About sick ideas of Cuban authorities

Gorki Aguila has been a symbol of a resistance against the totalitarian regime in Cuba for many years now. He has worked for his current position of the “main rebel” for more than dozen years. Because Gorki is not a teenager any more. The list of diseases connected with his stay in Cuban prison for two years, the constant fight with the system and a lifestyle of a punk rock musician who has not taken much care of himself  is probably as long as the list of the Cuban political prisoners of the last ten years or so. Around Europe he was traveling with the bag of medications bigger than the one owned by my grandmother. Which I naturally couldn’t help but comment on in a quite malicious manner. For which I would now like to have a chance to appologise…. But most of all, Gorki is an epileptic.
To quote just a few first sentences from Wikipedia: Epilepsy is a common and diverse set of chronic neurological disorders characterized by seizures. It is a paroxysmal behavioral spell generally caused by an excessive disorderly discharge of cortical nerve cells of brain and can range from clinically undetectable (electrographic seizures) to convulsions. Some definitions of epilepsy require that seizures be recurrent and unprovoked, but others require only a single seizure combined with brain alterations which increase the chance of future seizures. In many cases a cause cannot be identified; however, factors that are associated include brain trauma, strokes, brain cancer, and drug and alcohol misuse among others.
Epileptic seizures result from abnormal, excessive or hypersynchronous neuronal activity in the brain.About 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, and nearly 80% of epilepsy occurs in developing countries. Epilepsy becomes more common as people age. Onset of new cases occurs most frequently in infants and the elderly. Epileptic seizures may occur in recovering patients as a consequence of brain surgery.
This is a very serious disease which cannot be treated with vitamins. It is treated with heavy psychoactive medications. And such medications were found on Gorki on the early Sunday morning.
How sick idea of defeating a man whose only falut is the tendency to speak out loud his mind shall one have to accuse him of “possession of illegal substances” at the moment when he is just carrying medications which let him live normally?
How sick is the idea of Cuban authorities? To put him on trial for the fact that he brought his medications not from Cuba but from Mexico, that they were prescribed by a doctor from a different country? To rob him of the chance for treatment? To let him slowly die after a series of consecutive attacks in a dark cell of Cuban jail?

They tried to silence Gorki in many ways. It is not the first time he has been arrested. After last charges of “social dangerousness” brought in 2008 he was saved thanks to the pressure of international public opinion. Nonetheless the charges of “social dangerousness” seems to be just a sligthly annoying absurd in comparison to the idea of punishing a sick man who just tries to live…
Let’s help Gorki - let’s scream how he has been screaming for many many years.

Porno dla Ryśka, Pieniądze na Porno!/Porn for Richard, Money for Porn!

PORNO PARA RICARDO

As you already know, guys from Porno Para Ricardo are coming to Poland in July. But besides Poland they would also like to play in Spain. But no one has sponsored that. For that reason they have decided to use crowd founding and they are collecting the money online via Pay Pal system.

As you can see above my donation is not big but as I have just paid my debts I am traditionally broke. Nonetheless if there are more of even such small donations - eventually the money for tickets will be raised.

And I do believe it's worth to support them. Apart from the honorable causes like supporting the freedom of speech and opposing the totalitarian system, etc. it is worth to support guys because they are simply full of positive energy, they play good punk music and it will allow them ti finally play a normal concert... And additionally - they simply are truly cool guys! :D

Anyway - check out what they have to say about it by yourselves (the movie has English subtitles):

You can donate via Pay Pal system via the band's website, it's enough to click here:

PORNO PARA RICARDO W POLSCE!!!/PORNO PARA RICARDO IN POLAND!!!

Zdjęcie/Photo: Materiały Festiwalu w Jarocinie/Materials of Jarocin Festival

A jednak.
I cóż... Jadę w lipcu do Jarocina!!!!

You cannot remember my interview with Ciro Diaz because it was published only in Polish. I talked to the guitar player of Porno Para Ricardo a few years back in Havana. He was telling me of the problems the band had and is still having, of the inability to play a normal concert because of constant police interventions and denger of being arrested each time. It seemed that the musicians will never leave the Island or get out of the underground...
Yet it happened.
In July the most anti-regime punk rock band in Cuba is coming to Poland to play the concert at the Jarocin Festival. I didn't expect this moment to come. So when I saw the news on Ciro's facebook I had difficulty with believing. But it's true. I have real goose bumps. I am happy as a kid. And well... In July I am going to Jarocin!!!

Kuba w chaosie raz jeszcze / Cuba in chaos once more

Krótko i na temat, bez zdjęć.

Shortly and straight to the point. As an answer to the appeal of Ciro Diaz, the guitar player of Porno para Ricardo.
Before the visit of Pope Benedict XVIth on Cuba authorities are "cleaning" the island. As for the spring coming one could say but the point is - it ain't funny.
Mobile phones of oppositionists are blocked. The communication is stopped. Among many others who were arrested are: Ismael de Diego - the same who played Gorki in the movie Habana Blues and the bass player of Porno para Ricardo.
More information on Ciro's blog and other Cuban blogs.
In the most strange ways is religion influencing the communist politics...
